The Violet-capped Woodnymph is a bird of the Trochilidae family. Also known as the Violet-capped Hummingbird. It measures approximately 11.1 centimeters. It has a brilliant green body with a blue-violet cap, white tufts of feathers on the rump, steel-blue tail feathers, and a black beak The female has dirty white underparts, with lateral tail feathers having white tips, and sometimes a cinnamon wash on the forehead and underside. Its vocalization is characterized by the song: “tirip-trip-trip-ti-tri…”.
