The Marbled Wood Quail is a galliform bird of the Odontophoridae family. It is a small forest-dwelling crested gallinaceous bird, also known as the Spotted Wood Quail, Wood Quail, Northeastern Wood Quail, Piruinha, and Uru Partridge. It measures 24 centimeters in length and weighs approximately 457 grams for the male and 396 grams for the female. This species, with a larger crest in males slightly smaller than Amazonian wood quails, lives in eastern Brazil. Apparently, it roosts in the ridges of the mountains, descending in the morning to the deep gullies to feed during the day, similar to the Rusty-margined Guan (Penelope superciliaris). It is an important game bird in certain locations. Its plumage is streaked and blends shades of gray, brown, and orange to aid in camouflage on the forest floor.
