The Little Blue Heron is a pelecaniform bird from the Ardeidae family. Also known as the “morena heron” (Pará) or “gray heron” (Recife, Pernambuco). It can reach up to 52 cm in length. When adult, it has a bluish-gray plumage (slate-blue), with violet head and neck, and blackish bill, tarsi, and toes. When juvenile, it is white, going through a “mottled” transition stage; it also has greenish legs and eyes with yellowish (light) irises.
