The Chestnut Rail is a bird of the Rallidae family. It measures about 18 cm in length. It has dark brown upperparts and reddish-brown underparts. The sides of the head are more greyish than the upperparts. The crown is a darker reddish-brown than the underparts. It has red eyes and pinkish feet. Juveniles have more grey tones and lack the reddish-brown color of the underparts.
