The Yellow-bellied Potoo is a strigiform bird of the Strigidae family. Also known as Great Potoo and Lesser Potoo. It measures around 37 to 51.4 cm (male) and 39 to 54.4 cm (female). It weighs 405 to 562 g (male) and 331 to 670 g (female). It has a brown facial disk, white eyebrows around the beak. Dark brown back and tail with white transverse bands. It has a wide collar of the same color, and the belly is yellowish (origin of its common name). The white feathers of the submoustachial stripe combine with the supercilium to form an “X” on the face. Dark brown eyes. Feathered tarsi. There are no plumage differences between male and female.
