The Uniform Crake is a bird of the Rallidae family.. It is also known as the forest crake. It measures about 24 centimeters. It has a brown plumage in two tones, darker on the back and top of the head, and more reddish on the belly, chest, and throat. Its plumage may show a slight dull iridescence at certain angles. It has scarlet red eyes, a pale yellowish-green bill, and red legs. It vocalizes little during the day, often going unnoticed. It is a bird that is not very skittish but is difficult to see, spending much of its time hidden among tangles of branches and roots in the dark understory of its habitat. The chicks are born with a completely black coloration and gradually lose this characteristic with age. The juveniles have a coloration similar to adults, but they have dark bills, eyes, and legs.
